    This presentation identifies the foundational competencies HR professionals need for success and why being educated on the core competencies leads to HR being a better strategic partner.

    SHRM competencies support HR professionals and their organizations in identifying and developing HR practioners who have the critical competencies needed to deliver HR strategy to enable businesses to evolve in the future. The SHRM's Competency Model will be briefly explored. The nine competencies discussed will be Communication, Relationship Management, Ethical Practice, HR Expertise, Business Acumen, Critical Evaluation, Global & Cultural Effectiveness, Leadership Navigation & Consultation.

    Speaker: Sharon Sellers

    Sharon Sellers has thirty years’ experience as a senior Human Resources generalist.  As an HR executive, she directed the HR functions for corporations covering the medical, manufacturing, government contracting and service industries.  She is the founder and president of SLS Consulting.  Established in 2004, SLS clients range from local start-up companies to global enterprises in all major industries.  SLS consultants assist corporations in managing their U.S. employees, with clients headquartered in the United States, the European Union, Asia and the United Kingdom.  She focuses on helping clients create a positive, inclusive culture in order to promote high employee engagement and productivity. Sharon also conducts extensive supervisory, diversity & inclusion training as well as in-house investigations for clients.

    Sharon is active in the Society of HR Management (SHRM) and is a member of the 2016 Membership Advisory Council (MAC). Sharon was the 2014-2015 Director of the South Carolina State Council and the 2010-2011 President of Tri-County HR Management Association (TCHRMA), the Charleston, SC area SHRM chapter. Sharon holds a BA in Psychology and a MA in Management. She has been quoted as a Subject Matter Expert in local and national articles, including the Atlanta Journal - Constitution, the NY Post, the Charleston Post and Courier, and the Washington Post.

    Sharon was named one of Charleston's Most Influential Women in Business, CEO Division, by the Charleston Regional Business Journal in 2011.
