    Session One: The New Overtime Regulations: An Overview

    Time: 9:00AM - 10: 30AM (1.5 HRCI & SHRM Recertification Credit Pending)

    You will learn the steps you need to take to comply with DOL's recently released overtime regulations.

    On May 18, 2016, the US Department of Labor announced the final regulations revising the "white collar" overtime exemptions. The final rule: sets the minimum salary level for exemption at $47,476 ($913/week) and the salary level for the highly compensated test at $134,004; provides for automatic increases in the salary levels after three years (beginning Jan 1, 2020; and allows employers to count any bonuses paid on at least a quarterly basis toward 10% of the minimum salary level. This session will begin with a brieft review of the final rule and then provide guidance on the steps employers need to take to comply by December 1, 2016.
     

    Speaker: William Kleindienst, Esq. of Pflug Law Firm

    William Henry Kleindienst practices primarily on commerical transactions, employment and labor law compliance, business formation and environmental issues in commercial real estate transactions.
     
    Will Kleindienst advises employers on labor and employment law issues, including drafting employee handbooks, hiring and termination, implementing proper grievance procedures, addressing Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FLSA, FMLA & NLRA issues, drafting employment agreements and restrictive covenants.
     

    Will Kleindienst is active in a number of different areas in the Lowcountry community. He currently serves on the Board of Assessment Appeals, volunteer attorney for the Lowcounty Aids Legal Services, Volunteer attorney with SC Equality's Post DOMA Litigation Task Force, member of the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors, SC Bar Association and the Charleston County Bar Association. Will is a resident of Park Circle and a board member at the Mixson Bath and Racquet Club. He is a league tennis player in Charleston and competes in a number of different tournaments around the state and nation.

    Session Two Panel Discussion: HR Strategies on Implementing the FLSA Changes

    Time: 10:45AM - 12:15PM (1.5 HRCI & SHRM Recertification Credit Pending)

    This panel is led by Sharon Sellers, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, GPHR, will discuss strategies to implement the new Overtime Rules. Panelist representing various local industries will discuss the best practices they will be utilizing in their workplace to comply with the new regulations. Specific topics discussed will include the following: adjustment of salaries to meet the new salary tests, applying the duties test, updating job descriptions, communicating with employees, telecommuting implications and procedures for non exempt uses of company cellphones, any cost saving strategies and more.

    Sharon Sellers has over thirty years' experience as a Sr. Human Resources Generalist. As an HR Executive, she directed the HR functions for corporations covering the medical, manufacturing, government contracting and service industries. She is the founder and president of SLS Consulting. Established in 2004, SLS clients range from local start up companies to global enterprises in all major industries.

    Sharon is active in the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) and is a member of the 2016 Membership Advisory Council (MAC).Sharon's many accomplishments include being named the 2016 SC HR Director of the Year.  Sharon is the 2014-2015 past Director of the South Carolina State Council and the 2010-2011 Past President of Tri-County Human Resources Management Association (TCHRMA), the Charleston, SC area SHRM Chapter. Sharon holds a BA in Psychology, and a MA in Management. She has been quoted as a subject matter expert in local and national articles, including the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the NY Post, the Charleston Post & Courier and the Washington Post.
